Defense leads Phoenix to 12th straight win

January 27, 2014 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Phoenix shot just 28% from the field (13-46) but still managed to pull out a 62-52 win over Detroit (9-13, 2-5 Horizon League) on Sunday at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

Green Bay held the Titans without a field goal for the final 8:57 and created a 20-3 advantage in points off turnovers.  Green Bay posted the lowest field goal percentage in a victory in the program’s 45-year history.

Junior Keifer Sykes had just six points at halftime, but scored half of his teams 32 points in the second half to finish with a game-high 22.

Junior Greg Mays added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Green Bay, which hits the road to play at Valparaiso on Wednesday.
