Driver accused of fleeing crash scene with cyclist lodged in windshield

January 20, 2014 By WRN Contributor

A 20-year-old Manitowoc man is in jail after police say he hit a tricyclist with his car while driving drunk, then fled the scene of the crash with the victim embedded in his windshield.

The crash occurred at about 8:30 on Saturday night in Manitowoc. Police say the suspect’s car collided with the tricycle, ridden by 56-year-old Steven Gove, then fled the scene with man lodged in the windshield. The driver of the car then hit another vehicle, before finally parking outside of his residence.

Grove was able to dislodge himself from the windshield. He was taken to a Manitowoc hospital, where he was treated and released with minor injuries.

Police have not released the name of the 20-year-old driver, who was treated for injuries following the crashes. He’s facing charges of OWI causing injury, hit and run resulting in injury, and failure to render aid.
