January 9, 2014 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Phoenix women’s basketball team won their Horizon League opener last night, 66-50 over Illinois-Chicago at the Kress Events Center.

Green Bay ended the Flames 11-game win streak.  UIC is now 0-33 lifetime in games played in Green Bay.

Green Bay (8-5) improved to 20-0 in conference openers since joining the Horizon League in 1994, including 11-0 under coach Kevin Borseth.

Sophomore forward Kaili Lukan scored a career-high 22 points and freshman guard Tesha Buck added a career-high 20 points in the victory.

The game was tied 43-43 with just under 13-minutes left to play.  Green Bay went on a 18-3 run to pull away for the win.
