Snowmobiler dies after hitting ice fishing shack

January 16, 2014 By WRN Contributor

A 20-year-old woman is dead, after the snowmobile she was riding on collided with an ice fishing shack in Polk County.

The Polk County Sheriff says the crash was reported just after 10 on Wednesday night on Bone Lake, located just east of Luck. Sheriff Pete Johnson says officers determined two snowmobiles were heading northbound on the lake and moving between a pair of islands, when one of the vehicles either struck or sideswiped the shack.

The identity of the victim has not been released. The driver, 21-year-old Nicholas Krenz of St. Croix Falls, was not injured. Police did arrest Krenz on suspicion of operating a snowmobile while intoxicated.
