Son pleads not guilty by insanity to dad’s death

January 8, 2014 By WRN Contributor

A 20-year-old western Wisconsin man has pleaded insanity to charges that he fatally shot his father and hid his body.

Lars Helgeson entered the not-guilty by reason of mental disease or defect plea in Jackson County court Monday. He is charged with shooting his father 57-year-old Brian Helgeson four times this past September at his home. He is also accused of hiding his father’s body and stealing his vehicle.

Jackson County court officials estimate it could be a couple of months before experts complete their evaluation of Helgeson’s mental condition.
