Third Democrat enters AG race

January 23, 2014 By Bob Hague

Jefferson County District Attorney Susan Happ is getting into the state attorney general’s race. The Democrat filed paperwork with the state Government Accountability Board on Wednesday. Her entrance into the race sets the scene for a three-way Democratic primary. Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne and state Representative Jon Richards of Milwaukee have already declared their candidacies.

Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel is the only Republican in the race so far. Incumbent Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, a Republican, has decided not to seek re-election. Happ is a Jefferson native who graduated from UW Law Schoo in 1998, and was elected district attorney in 2008.
