Walker provides propane update

January 31, 2014 By WRN Contributor

Governor Scott Walker used a stop in Fond du Lac on Thursday for an update on the propane shortage. Walker spoke with President Obama during the president’s Milwaukee stop that morning. “We checked off every one of the things that we’d asked for assistance on. We’re glad to see that. At times like this it shouldn’t matter whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat,” Walker said.

Walker said exports are being redirected, which should help lower propane prices. “In the end, my number one objective is just getting it. I don’t care what we have to pay, I need to get it into people’s’ tanks,” Walker said. He thanked Texas Governor Rick Perry lifting restrictions, to bring Texas propane to the Midwest.

Earlier this week, Walker announced an additional $8.5 million will be made available to provide assistance to low-income propane customers.

“People are proud in this state, particularly in rural parts. That’s great, but times like this are not the time to be proud,” he said. “We’re willing to help. We have a limited amount, but we need to get it to areas that need it the most.”
