Amery police chief arrested for drunk driving

February 17, 2014 By WRN Contributor

The City of Amery’s police chief has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Department says 55-year-old Tom Marson was taken into custody early Sunday morning, after his personal vehicle was found in a ditch along State Highway 46. A deputy was sent to Marson’s home, where the chief claimed that he slid into the ditch because of slippery road conditions. The deputy reported that Marson smelled strongly of alcohol and failed a breath test. Marson’s blood alcohol level was 0.15 percent.

The city’s personnel committee has scheduled a meeting for tonight to discuss a “personnel matter.” Amery Mayor Michael Karuschak says the chief is on the agenda, but declined to offer any further comment at this time.
