Charges expected in missing teen case

February 12, 2014 By WRN Contributor

Charges will be filed against the former boyfriend of a Wausau area woman who spent nine years in Mexico after she was taken there against her will.

The state Department of Criminal Investigation says it will bring charges of interfering with child custody and truancy against 31-year-old Freddie Ruiz. He’s accused of taking then 15-year-old Connie McCallister to Mexico in 2004. McCallister told authorities she never intended to leave the country.

McCallister resurfaced last November after being missing for 9 years. She told police Ruiz took her to a party in Milwaukee or Chicago in 2004, where she was drugged and kidnapped. She escaped once in Mexico, where she eventually got married and had three children. She recently returned to the US in December with her family.
