DATCP getting propane contract complaints

February 3, 2014 By WRN Contributor

Some propane customers are getting left out in the cold by their suppliers, even though they are under contract. That has the attention of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection. The agency’s Sandy Chalmers says they’ve received some complaints about fuel distributors not honoring contracts.

“We expect that propane suppliers will honor their contracts, so if you do have these kinds of problems, let us know about it,” Chalmers said.

Chalmers said the majority of the complaints involve a distributor in Marinette County, but that’s not the only distributor they’re hearing about. “We’re getting complaints from throughout the state,” she said. “We’re hearing the most from consumers in Marinette and Oconto Counties. But for any consumer who is having a contract issue, dealing with delivery or an unpaid refund for undelivered propane, file a complaint with us and we’ll follow-up with it.”
