Lady Badgers swept by Purdue

February 24, 2014 By Bill Scott

#21 ranked Purdue knocked off the Wisconsin Badgers 72-54 in women’s college basketball, sweeping the Badgers in the two-game season series.

Wisconsin (10-17, 3-12 Big Ten) dropped its sixth-straight game, its longest losing skid of the season.

Purdue (20-7, 10-5) jumped out to a 14-3 lead early but the Badgers went on an 11-2 run to cut the lead to two (16-14) with 9:34 left in the first half.  The Badgers eventually drew even at 23-23 with 1:41 to play in the half.

The game stayed close early into the second half until the Boilermakers went on a 21-3 run to go up 52-32 with 12:39 left to play.  The Badgers countered with smaller runs of their own, but the mountain was to high to climb this time.

Wisconsin shot just 33.9% from the field (19 of 56), while Purdue finished at 44%.  The Badgers also hit just four three pointers (23.5%).

Michala Johnson had a game-high 18 points and pulled down 9 rebounds in the loss for the Badgers.

Wisconsin returns to the Kohl Center for their final home game of the season this Sunday against Northwestern (1pm).
