Nygren proposes propane assistance

February 18, 2014 By Bob Hague

Legislators are proposing some help for hard hit propane customers. A bill from state Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette, would help middle-income households buy the fuel. Loans would be limited to $2,500, and incomes could not exceed 200-percent of the median income in each county.

“These are really people in the middle who have been hit hard,” Nygren said Tuesday. Propane prices are heading back down, but Assembly Speaker Robin Vos still wants to move quickly on the bill.

“We’ll ask for a floor vote on Thursday, so hopefully if people do need those funds they can do it as quicly was possible,” Vos said. A gallon of propane was going for about $3.43 as of Monday – down from as high as the five dollar a gallon range a month ago.
