State seeks tax suggestions on new site

February 10, 2014 By WRN Contributor

Wisconsin’s taxpayers have a new website to submit their tax cutting ideas. TaxReform.wi.gov is a joint effort between Revenue Secretary Rick Chandler and Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch.

Kleefisch says the website offers everyone a place to submit their thoughts about taxes and tax reforms in writing. “What tax drives you the most crazy? What tax would you like to see changed? Are there cases where perhaps you have some clever ideas that perhaps you have seen other states do, or maybe your county or municipality? Maybe even you have an idea that’s never been tried before.”

Along with an opportunity for taxpayers to sound off, they can also see what other people are saying about taxes and tax reform. “There will be our great Powerpoint presentation to help people understand the context in which we’re asking for their tax reform ideas. There will also be a number of news stories that tell the coverage. There is, for example, a video of one of our tax reform roundtable (discussions) just so you can get some idea of where others have taken these ideas.”

Chandler and Kleefisch have been traveling around Wisconsin listening to tax reform ideas, including one a week ago in Stevens Point. Suggestions have included cutting income, property, estate taxes and ending the tax on retirement benefits.
