Strong second half lifts Phoenix women to victory

The Green Bay women’s basketball team picked up the 100th win in

program history at the Kress Events Center, cruising to a 70-42 win over Valparaiso at the Kress Events Center on Monday night.

The Kress Events Center opened its doors for the 2007-08 season.

The win gave the Phoenix (13-7, 6-2 Horizon League) its fifth-straight Horizon League win, while Valparaiso dropped to 3-18 overall and 1-7 in league play.

Green Bay trailed by two at halftime (26-24) and used a 14-0 run to start the second half.  Green Bay continued to build its lead and led by as many as 30 in the closing seconds before closing out the 28-point win.

The Phoenix rebounded from shooting 29% in the first half to 45% for the game.

Green Bay returns to Horizon League action on Saturday, opening the second half of the conference season at Illinois-Chicago.  Green Bay won the first meeting at the Kress 66-50 to open the conference season.
