Fire damages sorority house at UW Whitewater

March 14, 2014 By Bob Hague

A fire has caused thousands of dollars of damage to a sorority house at UW Whitewater, and displaced 23 students who lived there. The fire at the Tri Sigma house was reported at 10:44 Friday morning. According to the Whitewater Fire Department, smoke and flames were visible inside the first floor of the home, and all of the occupants made it out of the building before crews arrived on the scene.

One occupant was transported to a Janesville hospital as a precautionary measure. There was smoke damage throughout the house, and fire damage in the lower portion. UW Whitewater Office of Residence Life will provide housing for the students who were displaced. At this time the cause of the fire is unknown, and the incident remains under investigation.
