Garza roughed up by the Angels

March 13, 2014 By Bill Scott

Matt Garza’s spring training struggles continued for the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.  David Freese had three hits and Albert Pujols added two as the Los Angeles Angels’ split squad knocked off the Brewers 12-2 in Tempe, Arizona.

Garza allowed 10 runs, 6 of them earned, on 9 hits in 1 2/3 innings.  The Brewers committed two errors in the Angels’ 8-run second inning.

Garza’s spring ERA now stands at 19.06 after three starts.

Angels starter Hector Santiago allowed five hits and two earned runs in 4 1/3 innings, striking out six.  Santiago came to the Angels in a three-way trade that sent Mark Trumbo to Arizona.

The Brewers return to Cactus League action this afternoon.  They’ll face the San Diego Padres in Peoria, Arizona.
