Hostage standoff resolved peacefully

April 23, 2014 By WRN Contributor

Nobody was hurt in a two-hour long hostage situation Tuesday in Wittenberg. The armed 28-year-old male suspect from the Gillett area walked into the Shell and McDonalds building shortly before 2 o’clock. He allowed most everyone to leave the building, but kept a male McDonalds employee hostage. Shawano County Sheriff Randy Wright says negotiators were able to convince the suspect to release the hostage. A short time later, the man was taken into custody without incident. Wright says the man was experiencing severe depression symptoms, and is now being evaluated at an appropriate medical facility. It’s unclear when the suspect will make his initial court appearance.
