Alleged attacker dead in Dane County

May 1, 2014 By WRN Contributor

The Dane County Sheriff says two deputies suffered stab wounds while responding to an incident Thursday in the Town of Primrose. The alleged attacker is dead.

The deputies responded to a home to check on the welfare of those inside. There had been a 911 call about an elderly woman who suffered a head injury. Sheriff Mahoney says that while the deputies were inside checking for other injured individuals, they were attacked.

One deputy opened fire. Mahoney says the attacker is now dead. The deputies have been identified as Lt. Brian Hayes and Deputy Roger Finch. Authorities have not yet released the name of the deceased.

Both deputies are in stable condition. Hayes had surgery and will be hospitalized for a number of days. Finch will be hospitalized overnight.
