Brewers recall Wooten, option Herrerra to Nashville

May 1, 2014 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers aren’t ready to give up on Rule 5 pick Wei-Chung Wang.  Instead, the Brewers sent utility player Elian Herrera to Triple A Nashville and called up reliever Rob Wooten.

Wang struggled again in yesterday’s 9-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals and carries a 15.00 ERA in just four appearances for the Brewers this season.  But at this point, the Brewers believe he has a future in the majors and weren’t willing to offer him back to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Sending Herrera to the minors means the Brewers have only two healthy outfielders left, Khris Davis and Carlos Gomez.  If Ryan Braun isn’t ready to play tonight, then the Brewers will likely place Mark Reynolds in right field.

Logan Schafer is eligible to come off of the disabled list on Saturday.
