Manure spill in Fond du Lac County

May 29, 2014 By WRN Contributor

A massive clean-up effort is underway in Fond du Lac County, after a large manure spill at the Lake Breeze Dairy in Malone.

County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says an estimated 50,000 of manure went into a creek after a pipe burst. The manure ended up in a run-off area, which then fed into the creek.

The spill is already being blamed for a fish kill in Pipe Creek, a tributary of Lake Winnebago. Mueller says they will be monitoring water quality in the area, which had recently been sampled. At that time she says there was no contamination.

The dairy, owned by six families, has about 3,000 animals and more than 30 full-time employees.
