Packers have three more picks today

May 9, 2014 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers go into the second day of the NFL Draft tonight with three more picks.  They have the 21st pick in the second round, number-53 overall.  In round three, they have the 21st pick (85th overall) and the 34th pick (98th overall).  That final pick is a compensatory selection and can’t be traded.

The Packers will still be looking for help at inside linebacker, tight end, wide receiver, cornerback and center.

Trades

There were only five trades in Thursday nights first round.  Cleveland was involved in three of them, the last of which saw them move from 26 to 22 to select QB Johnny Manziel.  Manziel was the second quarterback taken in the draft.  Minnesota wound up trading back into the first round with Seattle at number-32.  The Vikings used that selection to grab Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater.

Safeties

The Packers selection of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in the opening round of the draft meant a total of nine defensive backs and four safeties were taken on day 1.

Day 2

The second day of the NFL Draft starts at 6pm tonight and covers the second and third rounds.  Teams now have 7 minutes between picks in round 2 and 5 minutes in between picks for round 3 and beyond.

Rounds 4 through 7 begin at 11am on Saturday.
