Racine-based O&H Danish Bakery is announcing plans to develop a long vacant auto dealership into a new bakery and flagship retail store, centered around the famous kringle.

The family owned business, which has operated in Racine for 65 years, is expanding because of continued growth in mail-order and retails sales of kringle and other Danish pastries and baked goods. The new retail store will offer easy access for tour busses and out of town visitors, who will be introduced to the history of the kringle and the artisan trade of Danish baking which dates back to the early 20th century in Racine County, according to company officials.

The plan still needs the approval of officials in the village of Mount Pleasant and its hoped the new facility will open next spring.
