The likely Democratic candidate for governor touted her education plans during a stop in Green Bay Wednesday afternoon. Mary Burke visited Preble high school to talk with freshmen during their annual citizenship showcase.

The Madison school board member says the work in public schools will determine whether the state will be able to compete for jobs in the future. “We really do have to redefine our high schools,” Burke says, ” We have to make sure that we’re supporting career and college readiness, that we’re talking already in 9th grade about what careers they are going to pursue.”

Burke says they need to make sure education at all levels is accessible and affordable.

The former Trek Bicycle executive and former state commerce secretary under Governor Doyle is expected to challenge Governor Walker in November for his job.
