Manitowoc Police found quite a surprise inside a vehicle they stopped for a gas drive-off; a wanted woman who had eluded police for months.

Lieutenant Craig Jansen says officers were called to a Shell station at about 1:30 Thursday morning after a motorist drove off without paying for $30 worth of gas. A description was sent out, and an officer spotted the vehicle about a half hour later and stopped the car. After the driver gave his consent for the officer to search the vehicle, a 19-year-old female fugitive was found hiding in the trunk.

Jansen says police had been searching for the Manitowoc woman for months on outstanding arrest warrants and $6,000 in unpaid municipal citations. He says the woman told police she had recently come back from Chicago to pick up her brother.

The woman was taken to the Manitowoc County Jail. The male driver was cited for theft and obstructing an officer.
