Gaugert captures 2014 State Amateur title

July 25, 2014 By Bill Scott

Alex Gaugert fired a 2-under par 68 and came from behind to win the Wisconsin State Amateur Championship at Ozaukee Country Club.

The 22-year old native of Lake Geneva birdied four of the first five holes, surpassing U of Wisconsin assistant golf coach Robbie Ziegler.  Ziegler led after each of the first three rounds, but shot a final round 74 and finished two shots back.

Gaugert plans to turn professional at the State Open next month.
