Nelson will average $9.7 million a season.  That number also moves him onto 4th place on the Green Bay Packers yearly average payroll, behind Aaron Rodgers, Sam Shields and Clay Matthews.

By signing Nelson, the Packers kept him from hitting free agency after the upcoming season.  Fellow receiver Randall Cobb’s contract expires after the current season but the Packers may be waiting to see if he can avoid injury this season before working out a contract.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Nelson’s new deal moves him in front of Julius Peppers ($8.67 million), defensive back Tramon Williams ($8.25 million), guard Josh Sitton ($6.75 million) and safety Morgan Burnett ($6.19 million).
