Boy shot in the head in Walworth County declared brain-dead

A Walworth County boy who was shot in the head on Wednesday has been declared brain-dead. Police have identified the boy as 11-year-old as Eric Gutierrez.

Sheriff’s deputies and Town of Sharon police officers responded to a 911 call just after 12:30 p.m. regarding a person shot in the head. The incident occurred in a wooded area behind off of County Highway K in the Town of Sharon. Deputies located Gutierrez and administered first aid. Gutierrez was transported to Mercy Janesville, where he was declared brain-dead at 12:38 a.m. Thursday.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, investigators have interviewed a 13-year-old boy as a witness, and the handgun has been located and collected along with other pieces of evidence. The Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation of this incident and further information will be released as it becomes available.
