July 28, 2014 By WRN Contributor

rrbuck09_railroad_crossing_tracks_trainAn elderly woman is dead after walking into the path of a train in Wisconsin Rapids over the weekend. Wisconsin Rapids police say the woman attempted to cross the railroad tracks while walking westbound on West Grand Avenue at Riverview Expressway, and walked into the path of a southbound train at 3:14 p.m. Sunday. tShe was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wisconsin Rapids Police Lieutenant Joel Flewellen say the railroad crossing safety arms and lights were working, and the train’s horn was also functional. The name of the woman has not been released yet. Police would like witnesses to contact them with any information that may help determine why she was on the track.
