Cubs blank Brewers behind rookie Hendricks

August 13, 2014 By Bill Scott

Wily Peralta is 6-0 against the rest of the National League Central Division.  But against the Chicago Cubs, he dropped to 0-3 with a 5.68 ERA after the Cubs blanked the Milwaukee Brewers 3-0 on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.

Peralta (14-7) saw his five-game overall win streak come to an end.  He allowed three runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.  Peralta was 10-1 in his previous 12 games entering last nights game as he lost in his bid to become baseballs first 15-game winner.

The Brewers couldn’t figure out Cubs rookie Kyle Hendricks, who allowed six hits in 7 1/3 innings to win his third straight game.  Hendricks improved to 4-1 with a 1.01 ERA in five starts since he got a no-decision in his debut at Cincinnati on July 10.

The Brewers had Hendricks on the ropes in the 8th inning.  They loaded the bases with one out but Pedro Strop came on to get Jonathan Lucroy to bounce into an inning ending double play.

Anthony Rizzo hit his 26th homer for the Cubs.  Arismendy Alcantara had two hits and drove in a run.

The Brewers saw their lead in the NL Central drop to 1 1/2 games over the Pittsburgh Pirates and 3-games over the St. Louis Cardinals.
