Gunman threatens tubers in Florence County

August 11, 2014 By WRN Contributor

A 70-year-old man is in police custody after threatening groups of inner tubers at gunpoint.

Florence County deputies had reports over the weekend of a man standing on the shore of the Pine River, pointing a shotgun at tubers, saying the river belongs to him and that he is the “King of America.”

Florence County deputies were assisted by special response teams from Marinette County and Oneida County. They eventually located the man, who police say was armed with a loaded shotgun, a loaded rifle, and 280 rounds of ammunition.

The man is in the county jail awaiting an initial court appearance. His name has not been released.
