Nelson wins PCL honor

August 28, 2014 By Bill Scott

Jimmy Nelson has been with the Milwaukee Brewers for more than a month, but he still did enough at Class AAA Nashville to be named the Pacific Coast League’s pitcher of the year.

Nelson joins Johnny Hellweg in being named the best pitcher in the league.  Hellweg won league honors last year.

In 17 games with Nashville, Nelson went 10-2 with a 1.46 ERA, striking out 114 in 111 innings.  He held opposing batters to a .179 batting average.

Nelson was a second-round pick of the Brewers out of the University of Alabama in 2010.  He’s 2-5 with a 4.10 ERA in nine starts for Milwaukee this season.
