Badgers get big game from big three, knock off Green Bay

Wisconsin’s Nigel Hayes, Frank Kaminsky and San Dekker combined for 64 points and 30 rebounds, leading the 3rd ranked Badgers to a 84-60 win over the Green Bay Phoenix at the Kohl Center on Wednesday night.

Hayes poured in 25 points and picked up 11 rebounds to lead the way.  He his 8 of 11 from the field, including 2 of 2 from three-point range.  He didn’t even attempt a three pointer in last years freshman season.  Hayes also averaged just 2.8 rebounds a game last season and is averaging 11.3 a game through the first three games this season.

Kaminsky finished with 20 points, 15 rebounds, seven blocks and two assists.  He hit 8 of 13 from the field.  Sam Dekker added 19 points and four rebounds after hitting 6 of 12 from the field.

Keifer Sykes, who scored 32 points in last years game at the Resch Center in Green Bay, finished with 20 points, including 14 of them in the first half.

The Badgers did a better job of taking Sykes away in the second half and his Green Bay teammates combined for just 40 points on 14 of 48 shooting (29%).

The Badgers improved to 3-0, while the Phoenix fell to 1-1.
