The Green Bay Phoenix (3-1) used some dominant first half defense and some clutch plays down the stretch to knock off Evansville (3-1) 64-62 in the semifinals of the 2014 Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Florida last night.
The Phoenix advance to tonight’s championship game against Florida Gulf Coast at 7:30 pm.
Senior guard Keifer Sykes scored 20 points (9 of 12 shooting) to lead all scorers. He also added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Green Bay shot 50% from the field (24-48) and 62% from inside the three-point arc (21-34).
The two teams spent the final 16:47 of the night with neither leading by more than four points.
Evansville had two shots in the final 16 seconds, but missed both as the Phoenix earned their 3rd victory of the season.
