The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is reporting that University of Pittsburgh head coach Paul Chryst is in Madison and is expected to be named the next head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers on Wednesday evening.

UW officials can’t officially announce the hiring of a new coach until after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, which marks the end of the application period for the head coach position.  A news conference has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The newspaper says a source close to the UW program confirmed Chryst is set to meet with UW officials tonight and a team meeting is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Chryst was born in Madison.  He played for the Badgers and then later served as a tight ends coach and offensive coordinator before taking the head coaching position in Pittsburgh where he’s spent the last three seasons.
