Whitewater back in NCAA D-3 title game

December 14, 2014 By Bill Scott

UW-Whitewater Warhawk logoLance Leipold was hired as the new head coach at Division 1 Buffalo University a couple of weeks ago.  But his UW-Whitewater Warhawks aren’t going to let him get away early.

The top ranked Warhawks rallied for a 20-14 win over Linfield (Oregon) to win the NCAA Division III semifinal game at Perkins Stadium.

Whitewater will face Mount Union in this Friday’s championship game after knocking off Wesley 70-21 in the other semifinal.  The championship game kicks off this Friday night at 6 p.m.

The Warhawks took a 14-0 lead into halftime, but Linfield scored twice in the second half to tie the game.

The came the final drive, when the Warhawks finally put it together.  Whitewater running back Dennis Moore scampered 33-yards for the game winning touchdown.  The junior from Milwaukee rushed for 113 yards on 19 carries and passed 1,000 yards for the season.

The Warhawks improved to 14-0 on the season and extended the nation’s longest active winning streak to 31 consecutive games.
