Badgers open Big Ten season victorious

The fourth-ranked Wisconsin Badgers shot a season-best 63.8% and rolled to a 89-72 win over Penn State at the Kohl Center.

Junior forward Nigel Hayes led four Badgers in double figures with 21 points.  Frank Kaminsky added 18, Sam Dekker 17 and Traevon Jackson 16 for the Badgers, who improved to 13-1.

The Badgers won their 6th straight game, while Penn State (12-2) saw its 10-game win streak come to an end.

Penn State senior guard D.J. Newbill poured in 29 points on 11 of 18 shooting to lead all scorers.  The Nittany Lions shot 53% from the field, including 64% in the first half.

The Badgers play their first Big Ten road game this Sunday night against Northwestern in Evanston, Illinois.
