Bus passenger takes the wheel after driver collapses

January 26, 2015 By WRN Contributor

A harrowing experience this weekend for about three dozen passengers on a charter bus that was traveling along Interstate 94 through Kenosha County.

The Sheriff’s Department says the bus was heading to Chicago from Milwaukee Saturday night, when the 68-year-old driver collapsed due to a medical emergency. The bus, which was traveling about 60 miles an hour at the time, brushed up against a concrete barrier multiple times, until one of the passengers grabbed wheel and brought it to a stop.

Authorities say 11 passengers were treated at area medical centers for minor injuries. The driver was taken to a Kenosha hospital. His condition has not been released, by the Sheriff’s Department said he was cooperating with investigators.
