Man and son killed after Jeep breaks through ice on Lake Winnebago

January 26, 2015 By Andrew Beckett

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department says a 40-year-old Sussex man and his eight-year-old son died after their Jeep fell through the ice on Lake Winnebago.
The two were out on the ice at about 7:00 Sunday morning, when an ATV rider reported seeing the vehicle fall in and called authorities. Rescue divers later pulled the man and his son from the lake, taking both to an area hospital. The man was pronounced dead Sunday, while authorities announced the boy’s death this morning.
Authorities say the Jeep went through near a 10 inch, three mile long crack in the ice, which had formed overnight Saturday
