Man killed after Jeep breaks through ice on Lake Winnebago

January 26, 2015 By WRN Contributor

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department says a 40-year-old Sussex man died after his Jeep fell through the ice on Lake Winnebago.

The man and his eight-year-old son were out on the ice at about 7:00 Sunday morning, when an ATV rider reported seeing the vehicle fall in and called authorities. Rescue divers later pulled the man and his son from the lake, taking both to an area hospital. The man died there, while the boy’s condition has not been released.

Authorities say the Jeep went through near a 10 inch, three mile long crack in the ice, which had formed overnight Saturday.
