Axford signs minor league deal with Colorado

Former Milwaukee Brewers reliever John Axford has agreed to a minor-league contract with the Colorado Rockies and will be trying to win a spot as setup man for closer LaTroy Hawkins.

In six seasons in the majors, Axford is 24-23 with a 3.40 ERA and 116 saves, including 10 for Cleveland last year.

Axford was 2-4 with a 3.95 ERA in 62 games last season with Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

Axford pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers from 2009-’13, saving 46 games in 2011.
