Beaver Dam police called to deal with kangaroo in a McDonald’s

February 3, 2015 By WRN Contributor

A Beaver Dam police officer is still shaking his head, following a call unlike any other he’s ever dealt with before.

Officer Rich Dahl says he received a call last Friday about a woman with a kangaroo at a Beaver Dam McDonald’s. Upon arriving, he found the woman sitting in the restaurant with what appeared to be a baby kangaroo inside an infant car seat. Dahl says he’s never seen anything like it in his 24 years on the job.

The woman had a letter from her doctor explaining it was a service animal meant to help her cope with emotional distress. Dahl says she acted like it was “totally normal” to have the animal with her.

The woman left without incident after Dahl explained she was likely violating the city’s exotic animal ordinance. No citations were issued.
