Emerald ash borer found in Appleton

The city of Appleton is reporting a confirmed case of emerald ash borer.

City forester Mike Michlig says a private contractor found it late last month, while cutting down a tree on the northeast side. He says state and federal agencies ran tests on a sample.

Michlig says he expected EAB was already in the city, especially after a confirmed case in Sherwood last year. It was also found in Green Bay, several years ago.

Michlig says they haven’t planted any new ash trees in over 10 years, because of EAB. He says they’ve been replacing others. About 15 percent of the trees in city boulevards are ash.
