Governor Scott Walker’s social media surge

February 11, 2015 By Bob Hague

Is the presidential buzz about Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker being driven by Facebook? Using Facebook analytics, the Washington Post suggests that may be part of it.

Walker delivered his State of the State address on January 13 and his Iowa Freedom Summit speech on January 24, a Saturday. By the following Monday, Walker had nearly 75,000 mentions on Facebook — compared to only about 7,000 the day before his State of the State address.

Walker’s Facebook mentions slid a little as the week went on, but shot back up on February 1 – the day after release of a poll showing Walker as the number one choice among Republicans likely to participate in the Iowa Caucuses.
