Senior Captain Blayre Turnbull scored twice in the second period, while sophomore netminder Ann-Renee Desbiens stopped all 24 shots she faced as the No. 3 Wisconsin women’s hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with a 2-0 shutout over Ohio State on Friday at the OSU Ice Rink.
Turnbull now has five goals in the past two games after recording a hat trick last Saturday night against No. 7 Minnesota-Duluth, and has 13 goals on the year.
Desbiens was stellar again in net for Wisconsin to earn her 20th win and 12th shutout of the season. During UW’s eight-game unbeaten streak. Desbiens has a save percentage of .979 and five shutouts to go along with a goals-against average of 0.37.
Wisconsin now leads the nation in scoring defense, holding opponents to an average of 1.03 goals per game. The Badgers also lead the country in the penalty kill with a conversion rate of .969 and Wisconsin has not allowed a power-play goal since Oct. 24, 2014 against Bemidji State.
