UW-Oshkosh offering early retirement

March 31, 2015 By WRN Contributor

UW_system_board_of_regentsUW-Oshkosh officials hope an early retirement option will help the school deal with Governor Scott Walker’s proposed funding cuts.

Chancellor Andrew Leavitt says employees will be eligible for the offer if they’re at least 60 years old and have been with the UW System for at least 25 years. He says about 100 employees qualify. Those who take the retirement option will also get a payout of half of a year’s salary.

Many of the positions will not be filled. Leavitt says he hopes to cut about 80 positions, over three years.
UW-Oshkosh faces a $7.5 million cut in the first year of Governor Walker’s proposed budget. It’s just the latest of several UW campuses to offer early retirement options in anticipation of the cuts.
