Marathon County authorities say seven people are in custody, after a high speed chase helped investigators uncover a major drug trafficking operation.
It all started with a car chase in Wausau Wednesday night, after police tried to pull over a car with different license plates on the front and back of the vehicle. The driver sped off with officer in pursuit, before it eventually crashed and the driver fled on foot. Police caught him a short time later and found drugs in the vehicle.
Marathon County Special Investigations Lieutenant Randy Albert says the drugs helped police obtain a search warrant for a home in Wausau where the driver had been. Once inside, Albert says investigators found marijuana, synthetic marijuana, heroin, over an ounce of crystal meth, and prescription medications. The discovery resulted in the arrests of six more people on a variety of charges, including 13 felonies and several misdemeanors related to possession with intent to deliver drugs and maintaining a trafficking place.
Initial court appearances could take place for all seven suspects Friday.
