Police in Wausau are investigating a threatening letter with a foreign substance that was sent to the City Council President. Detective Captain Greg Hagenbucher said the envelope was sent to Council President Romey Wagner at his home, and received Wednesday.
Wagner brought the envelope and the contents to the police department, where it was examined. The Wausau Fire Department and a U.S. Postal Service Inspector determined with a high degree of certainty that the white, granular substance inside the envelope was corn starch.
Hagenbucher said the letter made several statements about how City Council members should watch their steps and actions. Police are not releasing the letter at this time. Hagenbucher said police have advised the City Council members to closely monitor their mail, and so far, no one else has received a letter or anything suspicious.
