Two former Eau Claire County officials have been arrested, accused of stealing county funds when they were in office.
–
Larry Lokken served as Eau Claire County Treasurer for 37 years. Kay Onarheim was Deputy Treasurer for 34 years. Both retired in 2013. Police were called in January to investigate suspicious transactions discovered in the treasurer’s office. The two were arrested last week.
Detectives say both Lokken and Onarheim have confessed to stealing money while they worked in the treasurer’s office. Eau Claire County has submitted an insurance claim for more than 625,000 dollars and that number could go up.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice – Division of Criminal Investigation helped Eau Claire Police conduct the investigation.
Both Lokken and Onarheim were scheduled to have court appearances Monday.
