There will be four new private schools in Wisconsin able to accept voucher students this fall.

The Department of Public Instruction on Thursday released a list of 35 schools that will be eligible to participate in the choice program. New additions to the list include Central Wisconsin Christian School in Waupun, Saint James Lutheran in Shawano, Heritage Christian in Brookfield, and Kettle Moraine Lutheran High at Jackson.

The DPI also said 3,540 students have applied to receive taxpayer-funded private school vouchers this fall, which is more than three times the limit of 1,000 students. Of the new applicants, the agency said almost half already pay to attend private schools.
