Justice asks Wisconsin Supreme Court to reconsider former Walker-aide appeal

A state Supreme Court justice is asking his colleagues to reconsider a decision not to hear the appeal of a former aide to Governor Scott Walker.

Kelly Rindfleisch was convicted of doing campaign work from her taxpayer-funded job in Milwaukee County, where she served as then-County Executive Scott Walker’s deputy chief of staff. An appeals court upheld the felony misconduct conviction and the state Supreme Court declined to review the decision in March.

In a memo to fellow members of the court, Justice Michael Gableman asked for the decision not to hear the appeal to be reconsidered. He did not indicate a reason why.

Reversing a decision to reject a case would require three other justices to back Gableman. There’s no known record of a justice making a similar request previously, and there’s no indication how the full court may react.
